Who are we?

Students for a Free Economy (SFE) is a nonpartisan educational organization dedicated to promoting the benefits of free markets, civil society and individual liberty. SFE accomplishes this goal by establishing a presence at colleges and universities, providing resources and materials, developing future leaders in the free-market movement and acting as a network for students to connect with like-minded peers, faculty, mentors and entrepreneurs who share their passion for a free economy and society.

What do we do?

SFE provides you with the ammunition to combat the false idea that government knows better than individuals how to run their lives. SFE’s events, contests and resources help you understand and advance freedom wherever you are.

What’s in it for you?

Joining SFE will connect you with other freedom-oriented students, faculty, entrepreneurs and organizations. Members can participate in writing, research and art contests with cash prizes, gain access to internship and scholarship opportunities, and more. If members want to start free-market groups or have events on their campuses, we can help. Best of all, membership is totally free.

What’s next?

What's a "free economy"?

A free economy is an economic system where individuals freely make choices and decisions without government interference. Government acts only as a protector of natural human rights (including property rights), but leaves decisions like prices, wages, spending and saving up to individuals.

At SFE we believe free economies are better for two reasons:

Moral: All other economic systems infringe upon basic human rights and dignity and use government force to control individual behavior.

Practical: No other economic system produces more opportunity and wealth, raises the standard of living and spurs innovation better than a free economy.  History, as well as economic theory, has proven this time and again.
