How can we market freedom in the age of the iPod?

Why is pop culture full of anti-freedom myths? Why do advocates of big government make better bumper stickers than advocates of liberty? How can the ideas of freedom be communicated in today’s culture?
Explore these questions and much more at SFE’s 2008 Clarkson Colloquium – July 11-12!
What the heck is a Colloquium, and who is Clarkson?
col·lo·qui·um [kuh-loh-kwee-uhm] –noun
1. A conference at which participants analyze and discuss a specific topic, based on pre-selected material.
2. An in-depth, discussion-based, free food and hotel, kick-butt weekend to challenge and hone your skills in spreading freedom with other top-rate students in the state.
SFE’s Colloquium is named after Thomas Clarkson — a courageous young man who challenged the status quo, placed principle before popularity and changed the world. You’ll learn more about him if you come! The Colloquium seeks to provoke thoughtful discussion and debate on the issues and theories related to the fight for freedom.
The 12 participants (the same number of individuals Clarkson convened at a print shop to plan a strategy for advancing freedom) will be assigned readings and will be expected to come prepared with related questions, thoughts and topics for debate.
The Colloquium will be moderated by Mackinac Center for Public Policy President Lawrence W. Reed. In addition to discussion sessions, the Colloquium will utilize multi-media, and allow free-time to get to know the other participants.
SFE will pay for hotel and meals for any student who is accepted, and there is no registration fee!
The event will be held at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy headquarters in Midland, Mich.
